PROBABLE INTERFACE TEMPERATURES OF SOLIDS IN SLIDING CONTACT.

Abstract

Typical time dependent, surface temperature distribution obtained by indirect measurement is presented. Also presented are area averaged temperature jump data at the interface for high Peclet number; the jump is associated with macroscopic thermal resistance mechanism across the interface. Moreover, a simple stochastic model is introduced to show that, whereas the measurable temperature far away from the interface may be smooth functions with respect to distance from the interface, the surface temperature always will be fluctuating and the magnitude of these temperature flashes are shown.
