ELECTROMAGNETIC BACKSCATTERING CROSS SECTION OF A CIRCULAR CYLINDRICAL SECTION

Abstract

The electromagnetic backscattering cross section of a perfectly conducting circular cylindrical section is expressed in the Kirchoff approximation. The cross section for incidence at an arbitrary angle in either a longitudinal or a transverse plane is related to a geometrical structure integral. Using methods of contour deformation, this integral is approximated for the case of large linear dimensions compared to the incident wavelength.
