THE USE OF ADAPTIVE CONSTRAINED DESCENT IN SYSTEMS DESIGN,
Abstract
This paper describes the application of an iterative method, the adaptive constrained descent, to system design where system parameters are constrained by both upper and lower limits. The method used is essentially a direct search method, not dependent on the use of derivatives or power series approximations. The technique insures convergence and initial guesses can be arbitrarily chosen in some cases. This fact makes it possible to design networks directly from given characteristics using a high-speed digital computer. Also, design problems which used to be attacked by cut and try can be solved fast and in an optimum manner. The method is straightforward and needs only performance index computation and comparison of each trial solution. Details on programming methods are presented with flow charts. (Author)
