Abstract

Part I gives a brief report on the first successful demonstration of pulsed and CW optical maser oscillations in Nd:YAG. Part II is a rather detailed discussion of crystal field calculations for some of the states of trivalent rare-earth ions in YAG. Particular emphasis is given to a discussion of the Nd (3+) spectrum in YAG. (Author)
