PROBABILITY OF SEQUENCES OF WET AND DRY DAYS IN KANSAS,

Abstract

This bulletin deals with rainfall accumulations for 24-hour periods os that the tabled data can be applied to problems involving periods of less than one-week duration. For a given location, the probabilities found in the tables may be used for determining average economic gains or losses from the occurrence of various patterns of wet and dry days. Situations in which such rainfall patterns may be a dominant factor in deter mining outcomes are: (1) field drying of hay, (2) germination of seeds, (3) disease susceptibility in periods of plant growth, (4) time requirements for completion of construction projects, and (5) outdoor community activities such as fairs, parades, athletic events, etc. (Author)
