COUPLING OF PRESSURE OSCILLATIONS WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS IN LARGE ROCKET MOTORS,

Abstract

The effects of ionization in hot gases produced in rocket motors showed that under certain conditions diffusion of electrons will produce a small current. This current will, in turn, produce a characteristic magnetic field observable from outside the plasma. It is also shown that under certain conditions an external electromagnetic field will produce pressure oscillations in the plasma which are independent of the natural oscillations of the plasma, and which are quickly damped by viscosity and turbulence.
