SKEWED LOAD-STRENGTH DISTRIBUTION IN RELIABILITY,

Abstract

In this report, it is shown how the problem of determining skewed load and strength distributions can be solved. The skewed distributions are restricted to a class where only one maximum (mode) appears, and the left as well as the right side from the mode have normal shapes. Further, it is known for both distributions, on which side of the median the mode lies. A procedure is developed whereby a mathematical approximation for the skewed distribution from a given sample is obtained. After the skewed load and strength distributions are mathematically described, an integration procedure for the calculation of the percentage of failure is shown. (Author)
