PARAMETRIC EXPANSIONS FOR OVAL REINFORCING RINGS,

Abstract

In the analysis of ring-reinforced oval cylinders it is convenient to choose for the local curvature of the oval expressions which simplify the shell analysis, even at the expense of introducing minor complexities in the analysis of the ring. On the basis of such an expression formulas are derived for the stresses and displacement in a deep oval ring which is subjected to arbitrary distributed radial and circumferential loads. The results, which are sufficiently accurate for design purposes, are obtained as power series expansions in a parameter which fixes the major-to-minor axis ratio of the oval. (Author)
