RESEARCH IN THE FAR INFRARED REGION OF THE SPECTRUM.
Abstract
Investigations in three areas of the far infrared spectroscopy were carried out. These were (1) intensities and widths of lines in the rotational spectrum of water vapor, (2) reflection and transmission measurements on crystals at temperatures down to that of liquid helium, and (3) characteristics of some far infrared detectors. The investigation on the line widths and intensities in the rotational spectrum of water vapor were performed on the far infrared vacuum grating spectrometer designed and constructed here. Pressure broadening by nitrogen and self broadening were measured for three lines and appropriate constants determined by the Ladenburg-Reiche method. (Author)
