BUCKLING OF ISOTROPIC, ORTHOTROPIC AND RINGSTIFFENED CONICAL SHELLS,

Abstract

Results of a continuation of an experimental program on the general and panel instability of thin ring-stiffened conical shells under uniform external pressure are presented and discussed. Tests of ten steel and aluminum-al;oy conical shells are described; the results compare favorably with previously developed theories. A method developed previously is now extended to the analysis of the instability of isotropic conical shells under combined torsion and axial compression, and of orthotropic conical shells under combined torsion and external or internal pressure, or axial force.
