CRYOGENIC STRETCH-FORMING OF SOLID-PROPELLANT ROCKET CASES.

Abstract

The objective of the program is to produce experimental, flight-weight rocket motor cases of a configuration similar to Pershing, by the cryogenic stretch-forming process. Previous work demonstrated the feasibility of producing high-strength rocket cases by cryogenci stretchforming. The present follow-on program is being undertaken to evaluate the process for producing a specific, predetermined, complex-configuration motor case at the strength level previously achieved (240,000 psi nominal yield stress). Details of this configuration include skirts, forward igniter port, conical aft closure, and nozzle attachment ring. (Author)
