INVESTIGATION OF THE PHOTOPOLYMERIZATION PROCESS.
Abstract
The effectiveness of a photoreducible dye in the presence of several amines and amino acids was compared in aqueous solutions and in coated layers. A tertiary N atom must be present in the H donor for maximum efficiency. Speed of a photopolymerizable layer is dependent, on the rate of insolubilization of a given monomer when the resist is fixed by washout. Coating tests indicate that diacrylamide is significantly faster in forming an insoluble resist than any tested to date. Investigation of photopolymerizable systems utilizing both macromolecular monomers and photoinitiators continued. Acrylated gelatin was evaluated with regard to the influence of synthesis variables on the activity of the gelatin in photopolymerizable layers, its stability in photopolymerzable coatings, and its utility in systems containing photoinitiators other than the iron-peroxide couple. A new approach to a macromolecular photoinitiator system based on H abstraction from a polymeric H donor by photoexcited dye was initiated. (Author)
