ENGINEERING RESEARCH - SEALANTS - COMPOSITE FIBER-METAL O-RING - EVALUATION OF,

Abstract

A silver-impregnated composite molybdenum fibermetal O-ring seal was tested as a fuel seal in the temperature range of -100 to +1200 F. The dimensions of the seal were 6-1/2 in. outside diameter by 6-1/8 in. inside diameter by 3/16 in. cross-section diameter. Sealing properties at room temperature were determined by placing the seal between the faying surfaces of a steel test tank and applying internal air pressure. Sealing forces were applied with a hydraulic operated press. (Author)
