AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF IONOGRAM TRANSMISSIONCURVE TECHNIQUES,

Abstract

The source of error involved in applying transmission curves to ionograms are analyzed. Several measures for reducing the errors involved in present ionogram transmission curve systems are presented. Several relationships between range error and the effectiveheight error, range, and vertical angle of incidence for a spherical earth are presented in a series of graphs useful in radiolocation predictions. A suggestion is made for the solution of the pattern recognition problem involved in applying digital techniques to the pulse information in the ionosonde receiver. (Author)
