STABILITY OF RODS IN THE STATE OF CREEP,

Abstract

The determination of the maximum life (critical time) of a compressively bent creep-deformed rod is being studied. The approximate solution is sought by Halerkin's method. The author shows that with appropriate assumptions it is possible to obtain equivalent solutions using the general variational principle developed by Kachanov. The approximate numerical formulas for the determin ation of the critical time are derived and the result of computations is compared with the experimental data and calculations of other authors.
