A CORRESPONDENCE PRINCIPLE FOR VISCOELASTIC WAVE PROPAGATION,

Abstract

Proof is presented for a correspondence principle appropriate to the linearized theory of wave propagation through anisotropic and inhomogeneous viscoelastic solids. This prinicple may be stated roughly as follows: The speed of propagation of an acceleration wave through a viscoelastic solid of a given density and the relaxation tensor is identical to the speed of propagation of the same wave through an elastic solid of the same density and the elasticity tensor.
