TE01 CROSS-GUIDE TRANSDUCER,

Abstract

An interest in the TE01 mode in circular waveguide as a transmission medium has greatly increased over the past few years because of its low loss and high power handling characteristics. Since most microwave generators are available only in a rectangular waveguide output, it is necessary that rectangular to circular waveguide transducers be made available for use in circular waveguide systems. Such a transducer was developed which is compact and exhibits a mode purity of greater than 22 db and a VSWR less than 1.2:1 over a 13% bandwidth centered at 7.5 Gc. The steps taken to achieve these objectives are described and the dimensions given of the final transducer. Included is a brief discussion of mode purity measuring techniques, as well as examples.
