VEHICLE OVERHAUL IN USAREUR INSTALLATIONS,
Abstract
A concentrated study on the 1/4-ton truck, i.e., the jeep, was performed at the request of the DCSLOG to determine whether it was preferable to continue overhauling the present jeep fleet in various USAREUR installations or to procure the newer M151 vehicle. A comparison was made between overhaul in Tooele Ordnance Deport in CONUS and that in overseas theaters. The final cost of jeep overhaul in USAREUR was less than in CONUS. If one assumes that the USAREUR- rehabilitated jeep performs about the same as a CONUS-overhauled jeep, it still seems preferable to procure new jeeps in quantity, even preferable to rehabilitation at lower labor rates in USAREUR.
