NEGATIVE-GRID TUBES FOR PHASED ARRAYS.

Abstract

Sixteen L-65 triodes were constructed. Various design improvements include: use of thinner grids, thus allowing less grid interception; increased grid-to-anode spacing, to reduce the heating effect of the displacement current flow through the grid; and the introduction of a partially coated cathode design that reduces the ratio of grid-to-anode current. Thirteen of the tubes have undergone DC and RF tests. Power outputs of the order of 250 watts were obtained from several, and an efficiency near 50% from one of them. Grid emission and cracking of the output seals prevented operation at higher levels. (Author)
