PRELIMINARY MEASUREMENT OF H-ALPHA FLARE SPECTROGRAMS,

Abstract

A spectrograph for observing solar flare spectra is being built. With the spectrograph, twenty two spectrograms were taken successively with short time intervals, in a narrow spectral region centered in the gydrogen H-alpha line, throughout a solar flare event detected on September 7, 1962. Six of those spectrograms were traced with a microphoto meter, hence the profiles obtained shown in this note. On the other hand, three spectrograms covering the same spectral region, obtained from the normal region of the sun, were traced with the microphotometer. The resultant observed profile was compared with the profile mentioned on the Utrecht Atlas, for the purpose of estimating roughly the certainty of the obtained spectrograms. The existence of considerable stray light in the spectrograph was also deuduced. The ratio of the equivalent width of H-alpha line in the normal observed profile to that of the Utrecht profile amounted to 0.80. (Author)
