STATISTICS OF SOLAR FLARES. PART I,

Abstract

The main purpose of this note is to provide additional and more detailed information on various characteristics of solar flares, by means of statistical methods, to help in a better theoretical understanding of them. The solar flare's lifetime, area, H-alpha width, development curve, associated filament activation and associated sunspot group characteristics are all analyzed for each of 685 flares observed. Correlation of these parameters with one another and with flare importance and solar activity is shown, as well as the frequency distribution. (Author)
