NEW METHODS DEVELOPMENT FOR IRRITANT SCREENING.

Abstract

Histamine liberation appears of questionable value for prediction of irritant potency. The effects of irritants on excised tissue are being studied. A survey of suitable test species (cats, Rhesus monkeys and African green monkeys) is in progress. Screening of new compounds has been slowed due to difficulties with the quality of animal supplt; approximately 330 compounds have been studied. (Author)
