WING PIVOT - DRY FILM LUBRICANT EVALUATION,

Abstract

The wing pivot on the F-111 airplane requires a lubricant capable of withstanding the high bearing loads and environmental conditions anticipated during the service life of the aircraft. One of the most promising methods of lubricating the pivot is to use a solid film lubricant. Wear life determinations were conducted on 7 commercial resin-bonded solid film lubricants. Alpha Molykote X-106, Surf-Kote M1284 and Almasol X-38 exhibited the most satisfactory wear life under the conditions of this test. (Author)
