DEVELOPMENT OF AN X-BAND CW CROSSED-FIELD AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

Slow wave structures, namely the choke supported and the plain reactively loaded interdigital lines, capable of meeting the objective specifications of the program, were evaluated at cold test. The choke supported interdigital line structure, evaluated earlier, was abandoned. Emphasis was placed on obtaining comparative electronic interaction impedance values for the two circuits and on obtaining an acceptable circuit impedance match across the desired frequency band. Two circuit impedance matching schemes were investigated. Of importance is the fact that the plain reactively loaded interdigital line structure shows an apparent coupling impedance two to three times that of the choke supported version. Construction of tubes incorporating these slow wave structures for hot test evaluation is in progress. (Author)
