STUDY OF SOLID-STATE AND TRAVELING-WAVE MASER TECHNIQUES,

Abstract

The purpose of this program is to develop improved maser techniques and apply them to an operable breadboard maser system. The specific areas of interest include: Broad instantaneous maser bandwidth (500 Mc), Solid-state limiters to protect the maser from saturating, Superconducting solenoids to obtain the maser static field requirements, Possibility of using the superconducting tunneling effect to provide RF pumping power. During this report period, the major effort has been confined to broad-banding the maser and investigating limiters. A combtype slow-wave structure test section, 3.3 inches long, has been designed and fabricated. (Author)
