TRAINING, UTILIZATION, AND PROFICIENCY OF NAVY ELECTRONICS TECHNICIANS. V. WORK DIARIES,

Abstract

This series is a result of a survey conducted in the Pacific Fleet and the western United States during the first half of 1961. A five-day work diary was completed by 382 (92%) of the 415 ET's included in the survey. The diary, covering a period of five week-days, provided for a complete accounting of time in various specified categories including detailed reports of corrective maintenance performed. About a fourth of ET total work time is devoted to direct electronic maintenance activities. Above the ET3 level, time spent in direct maintenance activities decreases with increases in rate. About twice as much time per day was spent in corrective maintenance in PACFLT as in CONUS. About 95% of the corrective maintenance time reported for PCFLT was reported by ET2's or lower rates. Amount of direct electronics work time varies with assignment, with men assigned to schools and small ships reporting least. From a total of 584 reports of corrective maintenance, details are presented. (Author)
