THE WEST FORD ANTENNA SYSTEM,

Abstract

The West Ford orbital scatter communications sybtem consits of two installations. One site is located on the West Coast of the United States, at Camp Parks, Pleasanton, California, and the other site is located on the East Coast, at Westford, Massachusetts. Each site employs a 60-foot diameter Cassegrainian antenna system operating near 8 Gcps. This presentation will cover the requirements, design, and performance of two related low-noise feed systems for the West Ford antennas. One feed provides an onaxis beam only, the second feed produces tracking beams and a simultaneously operated low-noise communications beam. The design and performance of some auxiliary components such as a polarizer, diplexer, and radome are also discussed. (Author)
