EVALUATION OF THE BREAKERLESS HIGH-FREQUENCY IGNITION SYSTEM IN THE R-1820-82A MODEL ENGINE INSTALLED IN THE S-2D AIRPLANE.

Abstract

The Breakerless High-Frequency Ignition System was developed by the Wright Aeronautical Division and the Scintilla Division of the Bendix Corporation for the R-1820-82/-82A model engines installed in S-2 type airplanes. This report covers Phase I of the evaluation. The system operated satisfactorily throughout the flight regime of the airplane. No special magneto cooling was required. The system is compatible with high-powered shipboard radar. Phase II of the evaluation will provide further flight testing and permit the determination of service life expectancy. (Author)
