THE DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF HEAT-RESISTANT, RAIN-EROSION-RESISTANT COATINGS.

Abstract

It was demonstrated that different lots of Viton A differ in the rate of curing but that all lots evaluated produce coatings of substantially equal properties if the coatings are cured for at least 30 days. Pyre-ML (pyromellitimide polymer) coatings were found unsatisfactory as rain-erosionresistant coatings because of low abrasion resistance. One silicon-nitrogen polymer coating was evaluated and the preliminary findings encourage a further study of this type of polymer. A survey of the literature on heat-resistant polymers indicated several types of polymers of interest in the investigation for rain-erosionresistant coatings. (Author)
