FLAME INHIBITION RESEARCH.

Abstract

Rate profiles were obtained for a lean methaneoxygen flame inhibited by HBr. Hydrogen atom and hydroxyl radical composition profiles were derived for both the HBr and the CH3Br inhibited flames using known elementary rate expressions and the observed rates and compositions. The rate profiles are discussed in terms of kinetics and elementary reactions. Preliminary kinetic constants are given for the reactions HBr + OH yields H2O + Br and CH3Br + OH yields Ch2Br + H2O.
