APPLIED RESEARCH IN THIN-FILM FIELD-EMISSION TUBES.

Abstract

Experimental work on photon generation by electron bombardment of dielectrics was resumed, for possible application to photon coupling between micron-size devices. An alternative, simplified procedure for producing interim, operable, micron.size diodes has been formulated, to provide vehicles for encapsulation studies. Experimental work has been started on several phases of this approach. Further developmental work was done on materials-evaporation rate-control techniques. Satisfactory operation of servo-control loop, involving an RF heater and a quadrupole mass spectrometer, was achieved, but shielding of the RF heater within the ultravacuum chamber is necessary to aviod interference with the spectrometer.
