NITROSO RUBBER RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION

Abstract

Additional safety testing of the trifluoroacetyl nitrite indicate that the process developed for CF3NO production can be operated without undue hazard. Successful purification of CF3NO has been achieved through the use of water and 5% caustic scrubbers followed by a cold (-80 to -100 C) molecular sieve column to remove the last trace of impurities. Approximately 30 g of pentafluoronitrosobenzene has been prepared. CF3NO/C2F4 copolymers were prepared with intrinsic viscosities of 0.70.
