MICROWAVE NONLINEAR DIELECTRIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

Ceramic sample preparation techniques have been improved through a number of techniques which include the use of BST-50 milling balls and long milling times. The dielectric nonlinearity of stannate- and alumina-doped BST-50 prepared by these techniques have been measured and compared with earlier materials. A tentative correlation between doping and nonlinearity is made. Undoped control samples show a definite increase in nonlinearity over previous undoped materials. Measurements of the dielectric constant and loss tangent of BST-50 near the Curie temperature have been made, using a self-resonant pillbox sample with differentially chopped bias. The errors and omission caused by frequency-dependent coupling are discussed. (Author)
