SULFUR AS A PLASTICIZER FOR DISULFIDE POLYMERS,

Abstract

It is shown that large amounts of elemental sulfur, in a supercooled liquid condition, can exist mixed with both crosslinked and uncrosslinked disulfide polymers. In this state the sulfur is an excellent plasticizer for the disulfide polymers. The viscoelastic behavior of the mixtures is discussed in terms of their modulus-temperature curves, their characteristic vascoelastic parameters, their chemical relaxation times and their shear flow viscosities. Many of the mixtures are stable at room temperature for long periods of time. (Author)
