NEGATIVE-GRID TUBES FOR PHASED ARRAYS.

Abstract

Thirty-two tubes were constructed during the past quarter. Twenty-six of these were measured in RF tests. An output of 785 watts, measured calorimetrically, was attained from a triode amplifier at 1.3Gc. In a similar measurement a kilowatt of RF power was generated at 0.9Gc with a triode having finer grid wire and higher perveance. It is anticipated that a modified grid employing more cross ribs will permit the kilowatt objective to be attained at 1.3Gc. A shift to a stronger ceramic material is expected to overcome output ceramic fractures which have occurred at higher frequencies and higher levels of RF power generation. (Author)
