THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT METHODS OF REDUCING THE DISPERSION OF EXPERIMENTAL MISSILES (EFFICACITE DE DIFFERENTS PROCEDES POUR REDUIRE LA DISPERSION DES MISSILES EXPERIMENTAUX),

Abstract

The dispersion of experimental missiles constitutes a hazard of increasing importance as the performance is raised. A number of causes of dispersion together can make the launch of a missile particularly critical and certain methods can be used to minimise these effects. Even if the characteristics are carefully chosen an uncontrolled missile can produce unacceptable deviations. A certain amount of roll, produced by spin rockets proves relatively effective and allows one to obtain an accuracy in the initial slope of the trajectory of the order of 1 degree. A better accuracy than this can be attained by means of automatic attitude control, using auxiliary jets and a relatively simple servomechanism.
