THE TELLURIC EMISSION SPECTRUM IN THE RANGE 1 MICRON TO 3 MM.

Abstract

Observations made on the telluric emission spectrum in the form of aurora, airglow and thermal radiations are summarized. A calculation is made of the auroral spectrum in the 1 to 2 micron region on the basis of the latest data available at shorter wavelengths and this is compared with auroral spectra obtained at Saskatoon. It is concluded that there is no definite evidence of band systems other than the Meinel and the first Positive Group in this region. Reaction mechanisms for the night and twilight airglow in the infrared region are discussed. (Author)
