ELECTRONIC OSCILLATOR STRENGTHS OF DIATOMIC MOLECULES. TASK 3.4 -- OBSERVABLES ANALYSIS AND PREDICTIONS -- REST PROGRAM,

Abstract

The theoretical and experimental approaches to the determination of oscillator strengths (fnumbers) of diatomic molecules pertinent to heated air are treated. Radiative lifetime measurements are stressed. The status of numerical data, resulting from an extensive survey and Avco measurements, is discussed and recommended values for engineering use are given. Three appendixes cover the theory leading to expressions for f-numbers and transition moments, the experimentally determined radiative lifetime of the CN Red system, and computed absorption coefficients and emissions of C2 (Swan), CH, and CN Violet and Red band systems.
