IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY AND SPECTRAL RESPONSE OF FREE RADICAL PHOTOGRAPHY,

Abstract

This report describes results of research directed tward increasing the speed of new visible-light-sensitive print-out photosystems based on leuco xanthene dyes activated by mercaptans or halomethane compounds. Progress is reported in each of the following areas: (1) product analysis and mechanism elucidation, (2) improvements in speed and spectral response through synthesis and testing of new leuco compounds and activators, (3) spectral sensitization with cyanine dyes, (4) quantum yield study and reaction kinetics experiments, and (5) literature survey of free-radical photochemistry. The speed of the photosystem was increased from L.E.S. 0.0005 at the start of the year's work to 0.002 at the end of the contract period. (Author)
