SOLID STATE LASER AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

In the early phases of the solid state amplifier program, emphasis was placed on the study of devices which amplify giant pulses. THE THEORY OF GAIN MEASUREMENTS AND EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND DETERIORATION OF LASER rods has been discussed. The further results of amplifier work are given and a method for inhibiting the deterioration of LASER rods is described. In the crystal growth of Y2O3:Eu(3+), two outstanding problems still require solution -- the achievement of a higher level of purity in the materials, and the control of materials flow (heat balance). Both phases are being actively pursued, the latter one under a separate project. (Author)
