SYNTHESIS AND POLYMERIZATION OF FLUORINATED SULFUR MODIFIED NITROSO RUBBER.

Abstract

Continued efforts to synthesize CF3SNO and SF5NO are described. The first reported sulfurcontaining nitroso compound, CF3SCF(NO)CF2Cl, was prepared by the addition of nitrosyl chloride to CF3SCF=CF2. Oxidation of 4,4'diaminooctafluorobiphenyl with performic acid did not give the desired dinitroso compound. The synthesis of 1,4-diaminotetrafluorobenzene is in progress. Larger scale preparations of C6F5NO, CF3SCl, CF3SCFClCF2Cl, SF5Cl, and CF3SCF=CF2 were carried out. A 23 g. sample of CF3NO was prepared. Attempts to polymerize SF5CF=CF2 with CF3NO and CF3NO/CF2=CF2 were not successful. Attempts to polymerize CF3SCF=CF2 are described. (Author)
