A CASE IN AND A STRATEGY FOR THE EXTENSION OF LEARNING PRINCIPLES TO PROBLEMS OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR,
Abstract
The methods and principles of learning seem to offer the possibility for dealing with disorders of behavior in a more profound manner than is otherwise currently available. It is suggested that great advancements still lie ahead daead in the application of learning methods and principles to behavior problems. In this task, because the general method of a learning psychotherapy is based upon the manipulation of observable independent and dependent variables, the method should have advantages characteristic of other applied sciences--one of which is their 'self-corrective' nature. That is, when working with observable events, it is evident when something has been accomplished and when it has not, where principles hold and where they do notot, where development is still necessary, and so forth. Since learning approaches to behavior modification are based upon a set of experimentally established principles, a development consistent with that occuring in other applied sciences can be confidently predicted.
