FLEXIBLE CONTAINERS FOR UNDERWATER STORAGE OF LIQUID FUELS,

Abstract

The Swedish engineer Sven A. Svallert has designed a flexible container, call by him the Sasek system, for underwater storage of liquid fuel and other materials. The flexible containers of the Sasek system are made in cylindrical shape with spherical ends with volumes of 5 and 10 cu m and in the form of a cushion with vnlumes of 10, 25, and 50 cu m. At the present time a container of 100 cu m capacity is being developed. The flexible containers are made in several layers with a total thickness of 6.8 mm: the first layer (inner) of neoprent, second and fourth of nylon, third and fifth of rubber, sixth of rubber resistant to action of sea water and the atmosphere. The weight of the container with volume of 10 cu m is about 350 kg, for 25 cu m--about 500 kg. (Author)
