COOLING DEVICES EVALUATION.

Abstract

This report presents the status of testing as of the data of this report on Contract NObsr 89469. This contract is divided into the following interdependent phases: (1) evaluation in accordance with MIL-B-23071 of five types of cooling devices used on Navy SSB transmitter AN/SRC-17A. This testing has been completed and the results described in a Report issued March 30, 1964. (2) devise an accelerated Life Test with a predictable acceleration factor, applicable to small cooling devices such as those evaluated in phase 1. Testing is now being performed on 100 samples of IMC Magnetics part BC2914B to prove the acceleration factor. Prior to commencing the Life Test, various parameters were measured on all samples in an atempt to develop a screening technique. A partial statistical analysis of these results is included in this report. (3) Life Test fifty air-bearing blowers, similar except with respect to the bearings, to those tested in phase 2. Blowers for this phase (25 from each of two manufacturers) have been ordered but not yet received. (4) One hundred samples of each of two types from phase 1 will be tested to the proven accelerated life test. A failure rate for these two types will be established, and an analysis of the failures will be made to identify the infant mortality, constant failure rate and wearout regions of the curve. This phase has not yet commenced. (Author)
