A NOTE ON THE SUSCEPTIBILITIES OF MAGANESE AND FERROUS FORMATE DIHYDRATES,

Abstract

The magnetic susceptibilities of single crystal Mn(HCOO)2 x 2H2O and of the powdered Fe(HCOO)2 x 2H2O were measured. Conclusions resulting from this work include: (1) the temperature dependence of the susceptibility can be well described by a molecular field approximation of the four sublattice model with antiferromagnetic exchange interaction; (2) the appearance of a small and sharp peak in the susceptibility should originate in the MoriyaDzialoshinsky interaction; (3) the small anisotropy in the susceptibilities of manganese formate agrees reasonably well with the results of paramagnetic resonance observations in which the orthorhombic crystalline field parameters were estimated.
