DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MEMBRANE OXYGENATOR,

Abstract

A study was made to determine the performance characteristics and functional limitations of existing oxygenator designs. Based on the findings of the study, a set of basic design requirements was generated. From these requirements, a membrane-type oxygenator was designed and a prototype was fabricated. Preliminary engineering and medical evaluations of this prototype were conducted. Test results indicated that even though this prototype has not satisfied all the proposed requirements, the basic design is valid. It is anticipated that with proper modifications of the present prototype, all the proposed requirements will be met. (Author)
