ESTIMATION OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING COSTS,

Abstract

Estimation of computer programming costs is considered as one of many management problems in computer program development. Present technical management aids that are commonly available, for example, those for estimating costs, are not reliable and are primitive by contrast with tfose used in equipment development. Factors that appear to influence programming cost are reviewed and quantitative experience data for some of these factors are shown. Difficulties associated withimproved cost analysisare discussed, examples of work to alleviate these problems are reviewed, a plea for more analytical work to aid managers in program development concludes the discussion.
