A STATISTICAL APPROACH TO 2-7-HR PREDICTION OF CEILING AND VISIBILITY. VOLUME II.

Abstract

The statistical forcast technique, Regression Estimation of Event Probabilities (REEP), was used to develop equations for predicting ceiling and visibility at Chicago and three West Coast stations for periods of 2, 3, 5, and 7 hours. One set of REEP equations is developed for each of 36 predictands. The sets were applied to an independent sample of 1460 cases for each predictand and the resulting forecasts were verified.
