DESIGN CHARTS AND ANALYSIS FOR HEAT TRANSFER AND OTHER PARAMETERS IN A TWO DIMENSIONAL SEPARATED FLOW.

Abstract

A solution for calculating the base heating and other flow parameters in a separated flow region is presented. It includes an analysis of the convective heating from the recirculation of gases in the dead-air region and the heat transfer across the mixing region. The flow considered is a two-dimensional supersonic separated flow with turbulent mixing. The influence of propulsion jets in the base region is not included in this report. Results of IBM 7090 calculations are presented in graphical form. The base heating rate can be determined from the graphs for a given two-dimensional geometry, wall temperature, aft Mach number, stagnation pressure and stagnation temperature. An IBM PROGRAM (ASO 580) is available for further calculations. However, the graphs include most cases of interest. (Author)
