RESEARCH ON THERMAL STORAGE FOR ADVANCED SOLAR POWERED DYNAMIC SPACE POWER PLANTS.

Abstract

The feasibility of using lithium fluoride as a thermal storage medium in solar dynamic space power systems is discussed. The major emphasis was on the experimental investigation of the compatibility of materials of construction with lithium fluoride and on the construction and testing of liquid metal boilers to evaluate various means of extracting thermal energy from the molten salt. From these tests it was concluded that lithium fluoride is an acceptable thermal storage medium. (Author)
